Wiki.js is a wiki you can run on your own server. Its docs say it "runs on virtually any system where Node.js is supported", which covers Linux, macOS and Windows as well as Docker and Kubernetes.
Wiki.js is released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). The repo has no enterprise folders, and we saw no dual or commercial licence.
- Last commit: 7 Nov 2026 19:22 SGT, as of 8 Nov 2026. The repository is not archived.
Requirements
A single CPU core is enough to run Wiki.js, though the docs recommend 2 cores or more so the background workers can do their job.
Linux systems need at least 1GB of RAM.
The docs strongly recommend PostgreSQL 9.5 or later. MySQL 8.0 or later, MariaDB 10.2.7 or later, MS SQL Server 2012 or later and SQLite 3.9 or later are also supported.
Node.js 22 or Node.js 24 is required, a rule that applies since v2.5.302.
Install methods
- Docker, with the official image
ghcr.io/requarks/wiki:2. The docs start it withdocker run -d -p 8080:3000 --name wiki --restart unless-stopped -e "DB_TYPE=postgres"plus the remaining database settings. - Any host where Node.js runs, or a container platform such as Kubernetes.
Hosting options
Wiki.js is self-hosted. We found no managed hosting run by the project in the pages we read.
Backups and updates
Storage modules handle content backup and sync. The docs say "All content is stored in the database".
