Requirements

The install guide says "Coolify needs 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, and 10 GB disk space to run."
Its table gives the same figures: "CPU 2 cores", "Memory 2 GB RAM" and "Disk 10 GB free space".
It also says "Coolify can run on smaller servers (for example: 1 CPU core, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB disk), but this is not recommended."
The guide adds one more condition: "You need a server with SSH access."

Docker or Docker Compose

The official guide is Start with Self-hosted.
It defines the setup this way: "Self-hosting Coolify means you run the Coolify instance on infrastructure you control."
Installation is a single script: "curl -fsSL https://cdn.coollabs.io/coolify/install.sh | bash".

Hosting options

Because the guide asks for a server with SSH access, a VPS matches the official doc better than a one-click platform template.
A Railway template for Coolify is at railway.com/deploy/coolify, created by A3A.
It was created on 26 Aug 2026 and showed "Total Projects 6" on 17 Oct 2026.
Its services include coollabsio/coolify-realtime:latest and gridalpha / coolify-railway.
The 2 GB RAM figure is above the Railway Free limit of "0.5 GB RAM per service".

Backups and updates

Backups: the official guide is Back up Coolify.
It says "An instance backup saves Coolify's own data, including your projects, resources, settings, and deployment history. It does not back up data stored inside your applications, databases, or volumes."
On a self-hosted instance you start a backup from Settings in the left sidebar, then Backup.
Updates: the official guide is Update Coolify.
It says "Updating Coolify changes the self-hosted Coolify control plane. It does not update the applications, databases, services, or servers you manage with Coolify." Before you update, it tells you to create an instance backup.
