Apache Guacamole gives you remote access through a web app. Its guacd daemon supports VNC, RDP, SSH, telnet and Kubernetes.

Both guacamole-server and guacamole-client are released under the Apache License, version 2.0 (Apache-2.0). Neither repo has enterprise folders.

  • Last commit: 3 Nov 2026 22:32 SGT, as of 8 Nov 2026. The repository is not archived.

Requirements

The guides we read give no CPU or RAM figures, so none are given here.
Guacamole needs a database. The manual covers setup for MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
The web application runs within Tomcat 9.x.

Install methods

  • Docker. The project provides official images for Guacamole and guacd that are "kept up-to-date with each release". A typical deployment uses three containers.

- guacamole/guacd runs the guacd daemon, built from the released guacamole-server source.
- guacamole/guacamole runs the web application in Tomcat 9.x with WebSocket support.
- mysql or postgresql holds the database used for authentication and for connection settings.

  • Native installation, covered in its own chapter of the manual.

Hosting options

Guacamole is self-hosted with Docker or a native install.

Backups and updates

The pages we read have no backup section. The database is what holds your data, since Guacamole uses it "for authentication and storage of connection configuration data".
