Jitsi Meet is open source video conferencing that you can run on your own server.
- Last commit: 7 Nov 2026 11:23 SGT, as of 8 Nov 2026. The repository is not archived.
Requirements
The Jitsi handbook says "For a basic server, 4 dedicated cores can be enough."
For memory, "it's usually suggested to get 8 GB. For small meetings you can get away with 4 GB, for test servers or very small meetings you can try to use 2 GB."
For disk, "you can get away with 20 Gbytes of standard hard disk" unless you do heavy logging.
Recording needs much more. The handbook says "Jibri RAM, CPU and hard disk needs are far higher than Jitsi Meet itself", and 1080x720 recording needs "at least 8 GB RAM".
Install methods
- Docker Compose. The handbook says to download and extract the latest release and adds "DO NOT clone the git repository."
- Debian or Ubuntu packages, from the handbook's "Self-Hosting Guide - Debian/Ubuntu server".
- Open 443 TCP for general access and 10000 UDP, which the handbook marks as required.
Hosting options
No hosting guide is published in the Jitsi handbook.
Backups and updates
No backup guide is published. The Docker page mentions only that a backup of the .env file is saved as .env.bak.
To update a Docker install, the handbook says to run the same download command again, "just like how you initially downloaded Jitsi".
